Ghajini Movie Review: Not meant for the faint hearted

Posted on 24 December, 08

Here is the review of the most awaited movie of 2008 Ghajini sit tight and read on ….

Ghajini story goes like this … Sanjay Singhania (Aamir) after being hit on head suffers from a short term memory loss. He cannot recollect anything beyond 15 minutes. He has various phone numbers and names tattooed on his body all hinting at one thing, seek revenge for the murder of his girlfriend, Kalpana (Asin). The only clue he has is the name that he remembers his dying girlfriend uttered in his ears - Ghajini. What obstacles Sanjay encounters in his hunt for Ghajini forms the rest of the film.

Ghajini is a perfect masala film, a revenge thriller, a genre which was very popular in the 80s. But what sets Ghajini apart from a typical pot boiler is the way the screenplay has been structured, oscillating between flashbacks and present time. There is also a good balance of romance, suspense, action and comedy. Plus the biggest asset – Aamir Khan! The story has two major flashbacks, but unlike many films where flashbacks do nothing for the film itself, this one actually aids in building the character and adding intensity to them. Having seen Sanjay’s past life, you see reason for his current actions. The film at no point justifies the actions but it does give you reason to go with the flow.

Murugadoss’s direction is terrific and the master story teller that he is, he just doesn’t give the audience a moment to think even in 180 minutes running time film. Technically it definitely stands amongst the best films of 2008. Superb editing (Anthony), excellent camerawork (Ravi K Chandran) and amazing sound design (Resul) take the film to an altogether different level. The action by Peter Hains and Stunt Shiva keeps you on the edge of your seat. But some action sequences have turned out a bit too gory and not meant for the faint hearted. But with Aamir giving his everything all out in them they end up being a treat to watch. A.R. Rahman’s melodies are a treat to watch onscreen having been excellently picturised. Also, none of the songs hamper the proceedings.

Amongst the sequences that stand out are Aamir’s first encounter with Asin, Aamir visiting Asin’s boss’s party, Aamir’s outburst in the hospital, Asin’s murder sequence and of course the action packed climax where Aamir for a moment forgets what he is fighting for when he comes face to face with the villain!

In an author backed role, Aamir has outperformed himself, making us fall short of words in his praise. He is not only utterly convincing as a killing machine but he is extremely loveable in the romantic comedy sequences with Asin. South starlet Asin in her Bollywood debut leaves a lasting impression. Jiah though fits the part somehow pales in comparison to Asin. Her accented Hindi irritates. Pradeep Rawat brings back to Bollywood, the true villain that was missing since long time. He is menacingly good.

Ghajini does live up to the hype it has generated and is a must watch for Aamir Khan fans and also for debutante Asin and the latest addition to talented filmmakers of Bollywood, director A.R. Murugadoss.

Rating: 3.5 out of 5*

Ghajini…is undoubtedly a customized product for the Hindi audience who haven’t seen the original version in Tamil. Overall, the movie is pretty good, stands up for all the hype. But, I would still say…Surya and Asin were brilliant in the Tamil Version…their flashback episode…is one of the finest romantic story in quite a few years. Aamir is great as the angry chap who would stop at nothing to find his nemesis!…Lets see how far this movie goes!…Asin…ahh…South has lost another beautiful heroine…I doubt if she can come back to South Indian movies for another year or so…her callsheets seem to be booked already!!!!….:)

Aamir you are bollywood GOD. he is the only actor with 1 movie in a year, with different approach, with different style, with different acting and with different look and that makes him actor. keep it up Aamir, and wish u all the best for upcoming movies and hoping they are as good as Ghajini, lagaan, dil chata hai, rang de basanti and other movies………

Ghajini, the most awaited movie of the Year. i wish it would have never released.
the plot was stupid, characters were fake and Aamir Khan …..
whenever it comes to the technicalities, we have Mr Aamir Khan who alone in the Boolywood Advocates the Feasibility and when it comes to his movies he forgets.
In the beginning of the Movie there is a short disclaimer which states that this is a story of a Man who can only remember for 15 minutes and throughout the Movie he himself forgot that this was the main theme.

In the promos, it was pretended that it is a Thriller and Aamir has done a lot workout to get himself into shape; but in true sense it was actually a Lovestory…..

There are many incidents which can not be explained and Director has completely taken the Creative Liberty to Exploit it at most. In Ghajini, they have shown that Aamir pretends that he is a normal Guy and Asin is Shown as the Most Dumbest Girl on earth since she is not able to recognize that her Boyfriend is a Millionaire.

He donates Rs 25 L and wears a descent watch uses the Branded Signature Pen, his dressing Sense and many other issues which are not considered.

there are characters which do not have any need and one of them is the Police Inspector who gets killed in an Bus Accident.
his whole Purpose is to narrate his story to the Audience but that could have done by Jiah Khan, infact that would have been a better twist.

i just want to ask only one question how a person of Aamir Khans physic can lift some one who is SIX plus and is almost double of him.

I dont want to talk about the Action since i don’t have words.

THIS IS FOR YOU SAHIL……you are the dumbest person and i surly can tell this about you……….come on man nobody goes into that detail like you are (bali ki khaal khich raha hai)……..movies are made to entertain us but people like you cant really understand the movie and then they blame the actors and crew members………you need to understand the effort they put in to make movie. dont expect everything to be perfect and the way you are talking about movie and explaining, it seems like you know much about movies if so, is then you need to step in to bollywood industry…….its easier to said then done…..let me tell you this, even Akshay Kumar admitted and gave away award to Aamir becuz what Aamir has done for his movie was never done by any actor……..so, son just shut f*** up cuz you dont know the cinema…………..and ya i will waiting for your ass to make movie, a perfect movie
